James Boyle

(Western District) Born in Greenock, 16th June 1834; left because of ill health, December 1854, went to All Hallows, Dublin, 1855, and to Blairs, 1860; ordained by Bp. Murdoch, 19th July 1860; died in Springburn, Glasgow, 5th October 1872.

According to civil records, James Boyle's father was John Boyle and his mother Stewart(!) O'Donnell.

Report of the ordination of James Boyle in the Scottish Catholic Directory of 1861.

The Rev. James Boyle was born at Greenock, on the 16th June 1834, and was admitted into the Scottish College of Valladolid on the 20th May 1853. Having returned home in bad health in November 1854, on his recovery he resumed his studies in the Missionary College of 2111 Hallows in September 1855, and there received the Tonsure in September 1858, the four Minor Orders in April 1859, and was ordained Subdeacon in September following by the Right Rev. Dr Whelan, late Bishop of Bombay. Again obliged to return home in bad health in December 1859, lie was sent soon after to St Mary’s College, Blairs, where he finished his theological studies, and was ordained Deacon by the Right Rev. Dr Kyle on the 20th June 1860, and on the 19th July following was promoted to the Priesthood by the Right Rev. Dr Murdoch. After some months he was attached to the parish of St Patrick’s, Glasgow.
